A student should be excluded from school with any of the following conditions:
COVID-19
Symptoms range from: fever, cough, shortness of breath, chills, headache, muscle pain, sore throat, fatigue, congestion or runny nose, or loss of taste or smell. Other less common symptoms include gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea.
Return when they are fever free for 24 hours (without the use of fever-reducing
medications) AND symptoms have improved. Respiratory Illness Guidelines
Other illness symptoms:
Fever of 100.4 degrees (oral temp) or more: the student needs to stay home for 24 hours after the temperature returns to normal without the help of medication.
Vomiting or diarrhea: the student needs to stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
Specific Disease exclusion:
Chicken Pox: Until all blisters have dried into scabs; usually by day 6 after the rash began.
Fifth Disease (Parvovirus): None, if other rash-causing illnesses are ruled out by a health care provider. Persons with fifth disease are no longer infectious once the rash begins.
Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease: Until fever is gone for 24 hours and child is well enough to participate in routine activities (sores or rash may still be present).
Influenza: Until 24 hours after fever is gone (without the use of a fever reducing medicine) and the child is well enough to participate in routine activities.
Impetigo: Until 24 hours after treatment and sores are drying or improving.
Pink Eye: No exclusion, unless the child has a fever or is not healthy enough to participate in routine activities.
Rash with Fever: Exclude until a medical exam indicates these symptoms are not those of a communicable disease that requires exclusion.
Ringworm: Until treatment has been started.
Any child with ringworm should not participate in gym, swimming, and other close contact activities that are likely to expose others if the lesions cannot be fully covered or until 72 hours after treatment has begun.
Scabies: the student may return 24 hours after treatment begins.
Strep Throat: the student may return 12 hours after antibiotic is started, unless fever is present, then 24 hours after fever has resolved.
Lice: None, but treatment is recommended before returning to school.
