Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Hayfield Community Schools will be allowing a Bring Your Own Deice (BYOD) for the 2026-2027 school year. This program will allow students in grade 6-12 to bring their own laptop for educational use. The primary reason for transitioning to this program is to continue to keep a laptop in every students hands but also allow students to choose a device they feel most comfortable with barring some specifications. This also allows the students to bring home the laptop daily and keep the device should you leave the district or upon graduation.

This program is set up to be a simple as possible. Students in grades 6 and 10 will get the opportunity to receive a $100 credit toward the purchase of a laptop when purchased though the vendor provided by the Hayfield Community Schools. This will allow 6th graders to get a discounted laptop for 4 years. Upon entering 10th grade these students will get another opportunity to receive a $100 credit towards a laptop when purchased through a vendor provided by Hayfield Community Schools for use until graduation and possibly into college. If you choose not to purchase a device you may continue to lease a laptop from the school for a tech fee like in previous years, or you may use an already owned laptop is it meets specific specifications.

All laptops need to be a Microsoft windows device or Apple Macintosh device. Absolutely no Chromebooks will be permitted for use as they are not useable for state testing. Windows devices must have windows 11 with at least a 11.6 inch screen, 4 GB or RAM and 128 GB SSD. If you choose to purchase a Macintosh device it must be at MacOS Sonoma or newer at least a 11.6 inch screen, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD. Devices can be more but must not be less than previously described. If you purchase an ipad it is recommended to also purchase a keyboard for easier typing.

All students have access to Microsoft office 365 at no cost to them, this allows access to Email, Microsoft word, PowerPoint and excel. These programs may be downloaded from the Microsoft 365 account, download instructions can be found under the SOFTWARE tab. Many other programs can also be found in the SOFTWARE tab for download. There is also other links to websites and useful instructions found in the student links tab.

As part of the Bring your Own Device program the IT Department will provide basic tech support but will not be replacing or fixing personally owned devices. If you lease a laptop the school will still replace and repair devices for a cost.
